NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On November 4, 2007, about 1609 UTC, a Learjet 35A, Brazilian registration PT-OVC, operated by Reali Taxi Aereo, crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff from Campo de Marte Airport (SBMT), Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time and an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight plan was filed for the positioning flight from SBMT to Santos Dumont Airport (SBRJ), Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil. The airplane was destroyed by impact and a postcrash fire, and the airline transport pilot, and co-pilot were fatally injured. Six individuals on the ground were fatally injured, 1 individual on the ground was seriously injured, and another individual on the ground sustained minor injury. The flight originated about 1608, from SBMT. The takeoff clearance from runway 30 was issued at 1608, and the flightcrew was advised the wind was from 300 degrees at 2 knots. The airplane was observed to begin the takeoff on runway 30 from the threshold, and after rotation, the tower controller noted the airplane pitched up steeply, then rolled quickly to the right an estimated 90 degrees. The airplane began a right descending turn, then rolled left and continued descending. At 1609, the tower controller advised the flightcrew that the turn should be to the left. The flightcrew did not respond nor did they declare an emergency. The airplane impacted in a residential area in a nearly vertical trajectory, and 3 homes were damaged. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Brazil.
