NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

A Varig McDonnell-Douglas MD-11, powered by General Electric CF6-80C engines suffered what was thought to be a No. 3 engine fan blade fracture while in reverse thrust during the landing roll at the Buenos Aires Airport (SAEZ). Examination of the engine revealed that all the fan blades were intact but some impact damage was noted. The impact damage was limited to seven blades and some had previous FOD blends. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Argentina.
