NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On December 20, 2007, about 1630 Atlantic standard time, a Cessna 208B, N954PA, registered to and operated by Agape Flights, Inc., was ditched in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 30 nautical miles west-northwest of Chub Cay, Bahamas. The commercial-rated pilot and one passenger were not injured, and the airplane was substantially damaged. The business flight was operating under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed in the area for the flight, which was operated on a instrument flight rules flight plan. The flight originated about 1230, from Las Americas International Airport (MDSD), Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and was en route to Palm Beach International Airport, West Palm Beach, Florida. The airplane was filled with fuel before takeoff, and approximately 4 hours into the flight, while flying at 12,000 feet and in communication with Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center, the engine went to 0 thrust with the Ng gauge indicating 20 RPM. The on-board GPS receiver and air traffic control confirmed that the closest airport (Chub Cay Airport) was located 31 nautical miles from the flight's position at that time. Attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful and recognizing that the flight was unable to land there, the pilot maneuvered the airplane near several boats. After contact with the water, the airplane nosed over and the occupants exited and were rescued by a sailboat. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Bahamas.
