NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On April 9, 2008, about 1530 Peruvian local time, a Cessna U206C, Peruvian registration OB-1266, operated by Aero Ica S.A.C., was destroyed when it impacted terrain while returning to land at Maria Reiche Airport (SPZA), Nazca, Ica Province, Peru. The Peruvian commercial pilot incurred minor injuries and the five French passengers were fatally injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the sightseeing flight conducted under Peruvian flight regulations. According to information released by the Peruvian government, the airplane departed Maria Reiche Airport runway 07 for the Nazca Lines, and was airborne for about 1 minute when the pilot attempted to return to the airport. The airplane descended into a power line and hit a house before impacting the terrain. The accident occurred in the vicinity of 14 degrees, 51.47 minutes south latitude, 74 degrees, 58.17 minutes west longitude. The investigation is under the direction of the Republic of Peru.
