NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On December 1, 2005, a Skymark Airlines Boeing 767-300B, registration number JA767B, powered by two GE CF680C2 engines, a experienced a No. 2 engine failure and a subsequent fire caution indication illuminated in the cockpit just after takeoff from Kagoshima Airport, Kagoshima, Japan. The engine was shutdown and the airplane returned to the airport for an uneventful landing. The No. 2 engine outboard core cowl exhibited fire damage and a burn thru. The engine was shipped to the GE Caledonia repair and shop for examination and disassembly. The examination was performed under the supervision of the Japaneses Aircraft and Railway Accidents Investigation Commission (JARAIC) investigator in charge. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Japan.
