NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident
On February 10, 2010 at approximately 0542 UTC, an ItAli Airlines MD-82 at liftoff from runway 35R in Malpesa, experienced right engine severe damage. The aircraft continued its takeoff climb to a safe altitude, performed a long downwind leg and landed back in Malpesa (LIMC) on the same runway. A runway post flight inspection revealed that part of the engine cowl failed on the runway. Landing was accomplished without further problems. Extensive engine damage was noted.
