NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On November 9, 2009 about 0517 UTC, Kenyan registry 5Y-VVQ, a Beech 1900D, a chartered cargo flight, had a loss of control and collided with the ground during a visual approach for landing at Wilson Airport, Nairobi, Kenya. The airplane had turned back to Nairobi after the pilot reportedly shut down the number one engine after it had a loss of oil pressure. The airplane was about 300 meters from the runway when it rolled left and struck the ground in a steep left bank. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and the airplane was on an instrument flight plan. One of the two pilots, the only occupants, was fatally injured. The second pilot received serious injuries. The airplane was destroyed and there was post-crash fire. The flight was originally destined for Guryell, Somalia. The Kenya Accident Investigation Division (AID) is investigating the accident. As the State of Manufacture and Design of the aircraft, the NTSB has designated a U.S. Accredited Representative to the AID investigation. All inquiries regarding this investigation should be directed to: Kenya Ministry of Transport Air Accident Investigation Department Transcom House, Ngong Road P.O. Box 52692 Nairobi, Kenya
