NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On March 12, 2004, at about 1700 local time, a Royal Norwegian Air Force (RNoAF) Dassault Aviation DA-20-5 Falcon airplane, registration No. 0125, experienced a loss of power from the right engine, a Honeywell TFE731-5BR-2C, while the airplane was in cruise flight near Roeros, Norway. The flight crew reported that they were in cruise flight at 36,000 feet at Mach 0.82 when they heard a bang from the right engine. The flight crew stated that there were no engine warning lights or abnormal indications prior to the incident. The flight crew reported that the engine made an uncommanded shutdown, the airplane began to vibrate, and there was a right engine fire warning. The flight crew discharged one fire bottle into the right engine's nacelle and the fire warning ceased. The airplane landed at Vaernes Airport, Trondheim, Norway without incident. The two pilots and eight passengers on board were not injured. This incident is under the jurisdiction of the Government of Norway.
