NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On 20 June 2012, an Airbus A320 (Registration ZK-OJQ) operated by Air New Zealand suffered a bird-strike on its right-hand engine on approach to Wellington Aerodrome (New Zealand). The aircraft landed safely, after which Air New Zealand Maintenance carried out inspection of the right-hand engine in accordance with the Airbus aircraft maintenance manual. The aeroplane was subsequently released to service and flew from Wellington to Auckland (about a one-hour flight). On approach to Auckland the right-hand engine surged. The flight crew reduced the engine to idle and again landed the aircraft without further incident. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of New Zealand.
