NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On October 31, 2012, about 1545 coordinated universal time (1045 local time), a Cessna 206, Ecuadorian registration HC-CBG, was substantially damaged during a forced landing in Kiim, Ecuador. The Ecuadorian commercial pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operating on a visual flight rules flight plan from Edmundo Carvajal Airport (SEMC), Macas, Ecuador, to pick up three passengers from a runway at Nuevo Canuza, Ecuador. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight conducted under Ecuadorian flight regulations. According to preliminary information provided by the government of Ecuador, about 17 minutes after takeoff, with the airplane level at 5,500 feet, the engine lost power. After unsuccessfully trying to regain the power, the pilot attempted to land the airplane in a small plaza in Kiim. During the final approach, the airplane's left wing hit a tree, and the airplane impacted the ground nose first. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Ecuador.
