NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On September 18, 2013, at about 0028 UTC, an ATR72-500 turboprop airplane experienced high vibration on descent to Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Makassar, Ujung Pandang-Celebes Island, Indonesia (UPG). The flight crew declared an emergency and a normal landing was accomplished. A post-event inspection found that the blades of the propeller installed on the right engine were in different pitch positions and did not feather after shutdown.The flight originated at Kendar-Celebes Island, Indonesia (KDI) with 6 flight crew and 70 passengers on board. There were no injuries and no major airplane damage was reported. The investigation is under the jurisdiction of the government of Indonesia. As State of Design for the airplane's propellers, the United States has designated an accredited representative to participate in the investigation under the provisions of Annex 13 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation.
