NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On October 27, 2013, about 1735 central daylight time, a Bellanca 14-19-3, N11RC, collided with power lines and trees near Boerne, Texas. The pilot, the sole occupant on board, was fatally injured. The airplane was destroyed by impact forces and resultant fire. The airplane was registered to and operated by the pilot under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight, and it is unknown at this time whether a flight plan had been filed. The flight originated from Eldon, Missouri, about 1200, and was en route to San Geronimo, Texas. Both a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector and a National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigator examined the accident site. Their examination revealed the airplane was southbound when it struck a 40-foot tall oak tree and power lines at a low angle and high speed on the north side of Texas Highway 46. It then traveled about 80 feet and went underneath 40-foot tall power lines on the south side of the highway. One telephone pole was completely broken at mid-span. The wreckage is strewn about 200 feet, and pieces of wreckage were scattered on the highway. One propeller blade was bent 30 degrees forward. The other blade is bent 30 degrees forward and 90 aft. No chordwise scratching on the blade surfaces and no leading-edge blade damage were noted.
