NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On May 13, 2014, about 1430 hours mountain daylight time, a Cessna 180, N5281D, sustained substantial damage to the left wing during a ground loop at the Nampa Municipal Airport (MAN). The private pilot and one passenger were not injured. The airplane was owned and operated by the pilot under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the personal flight and no flight plan was filed. The flight originated from MAN at an unknown time. The pilot reported that after flying a large circle around the airport, he prepared the airplane for landing. The pilot made a normal approach; shortly before touchdown the pilot noted that the airspeed indicator displayed 60 knots. The airplane touched down normally in a three point landing, however, it instantly veered right and ground looped. The airplane has been recovered for further examination.
