NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On August 6, 2014, at 1745 central daylight time, a Raytheon B36TC airplane, N1069T, made an emergency landing after a partial loss of engine power near the Decatur Airport (KDEC), Decatur, Illinois. The pilot was not injured and the airplane sustained substantial damage. The airplane was registered to S.R. Aero LLC, and was operated by a private individual under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight which operated on an instrument flight rules flight plan. The flight originated from the Macomb Municipal Airport (KMQB), Macomb, Illinois, at 1658. According to the pilot, he was turning left base in the traffic pattern when he noticed a loss of engine power. He turned on the electric fuel pump and the engine power was restored for a moment. The engine lost power again and the pilot made a forced landing into a corn field located on the airfield. During the landing, the airplane exited the corn field, struck a berm and came to rest on the other side. According to the responding Federal Aviation Administration inspector, the pilot switched fuel tanks about 10 miles away from the destination airport. The airplane has been retained for further examination.
