NTSB Narrative Summary Released at Completion of Accident

On August 27, 2014, about 1045 central daylight time, a Cessna model 310 airplane, N101JB, conducted a forced landing shortly after takeoff from the El Dorado/Captain Jack Thomas Memorial Airport, El Dorado, Kansas. The airline transport rated pilot and sole passenger, were not injured, and the airplane was substantially damaged. The airplane was registered to and operated by Lakepoint Aviation II, LLC, Augusta, Kansas, under the provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 as a proficiency flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed and a flight plan was not filed. The flight was originating at the time of the accident. The pilot reported to the responding Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector, that he was doing touch-and-goes. During takeoff, the airplane drifted to the left; as the airplane approached the end of the runway and the pilot elected to continue the takeoff. After takeoff, the left engine experienced a loss of power; he then chose an open field for the forced landing. During the landing, the right landing gear collapsed. Examination of the airplane revealed that the left engine's throttle cable had separated; both left and right engine throttle cables were removed for further examination.
